A Faith Big Enough For All We Are Facing
"Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him,
for God is our refuge" Psalms 62:8
The beginning of 2026 brings with it a mix of excitement and uncertainty. I feel that tension right now as a parent, a spouse, and a pastor.
In our family, we are preparing for Grace’s high school graduation in May while also walking alongside Allison’s mom as she downsizes and moves into senior living. These are meaningful moments filled with gratitude and love, and also tender reminders that change often carries both joy and ache.
At the same time, I am deeply grateful for new families joining our church and the ways God continues to be unveiled among us. Watching our congregation grow and take shape here in North Carrollton fills me with hope. Adding in my own reflections on health and wholeness, January feels full in both good and challenging ways.
That is why I keep coming back to the Psalms.
The Psalms remind us that faith has always made room for the whole range of human experience. They hold hope and fear, gratitude and worry, praise and lament. Psalm 62 says it plainly, “Trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart before him, for God is our refuge.”
Not some of the time.
Not after we have figured things out.
At all times.
This year, I am not aiming for a faith that has all the answers. I am praying for a faith big enough to hold all we are facing and honest enough to pour it out before God.
This Sunday, we continue our new sermon series, Unveiled, reflecting on how God names us Beloved before we ever do a thing. It will also be a special joining Sunday, and I hope you will help us welcome our new members.
As the emotions rise this week, may we remember this simple truth. God is not intimidated by our emotions. God meets us in them.
With Gratitude,
Rev. Rodney Whitfield
Senior Pastor
